Getting a job offer in Kuwait is only the beginning.
For most expatriates working in Kuwait's private sector, the next major steps involve the employer, the Public Authority for Manpower, the work-entry process and eventually your Article 18 residence.
This guide explains the journey in simple language so you know what normally happens after a company tells you that you have been selected.
The exact documents or procedure can vary depending on your nationality, profession, employer and whether you are applying from outside Kuwait or are already legally residing in Kuwait. Always confirm your individual case through the official authorities.
First Understand What Article 18 Means
Article 18 is the residence category generally used for expatriates working in Kuwait's private sector.
It is different from simply receiving a job offer.
A company saying "you are selected" does not by itself mean that your Kuwait work authorization or residence has been approved.
Think of the process as separate stages:
Job selection â employment formalities â work permit â work-entry authorization where applicable â arrival or status procedure â medical and other residency requirements â Article 18 residence â Civil ID and digital identity services
The employer normally plays a central role in the work-permit and sponsorship process.
Job Offer and Work Permit Are Not the Same Thing
A job offer tells you that an employer intends to hire you.
The work permit is part of the official employment process.
For private-sector expatriate employment, the employer must handle the necessary labour authorization through Kuwait's competent labour authority.
The Public Authority for Manpower â commonly called PAM â is the key authority for private-sector labour matters.
Do not assume that:
an email offer means the work permit is approved âĸ a WhatsApp message is an official visa âĸ a recruiter saying "visa ready" means all government procedures are complete âĸ paying someone personally will speed up a legitimate government approval
Until there is real official processing, treat the job as still being in progress.
What the Employer Normally Does
Once the company moves forward with your hiring, it normally handles the employer-side procedures required for the work permit and sponsorship.
The employee may be asked to provide documents such as:
passport copy âĸ photographs âĸ educational or professional documents where required âĸ police or criminal-record documents where applicable âĸ other documents required for the particular profession or immigration process

Non-Arabic documents may also require an accepted translation.
Because document validity periods and authentication rules matter, do not obtain documents months too early without checking the current requirement.

After Arriving in Kuwait
Arrival does not automatically mean your Article 18 residence is finished.
There are normally additional residence formalities to complete.
For a first-time private-sector Article 18 residence, Kuwait Government Online currently lists requirements including:

Medical Fitness

Follow the official instructions given for your application rather than using an unofficial clinic simply because someone says it can complete the process faster.
Keep copies or reference details of medical-related documents where available.

Some residence procedures may be accessible through the Sahel app, while others may involve the relevant government office depending on the transaction and your case.
If You Are Already Working in Kuwait
If you are already in Kuwait under another employer or residence status, do not assume the process is the same as recruiting a worker from overseas.
Changing employers can involve transfer rules, approvals and conditions that depend on your existing residence and employment situation.
Before resigning:
â understand whether your residence can be transferred â ask what official process the new employer intends to use â check whether the new employer has actually started the required procedure â keep your current residence valid â keep copies of your employment and residence documents
Never start working unofficially for another company simply because they promise to transfer your residence later.

Create one secure folder containing your Kuwait employment documents.
Keep copies of:

Do not depend entirely on your employer, agent or recruiter to keep the only copy.
Having your own records can save enormous difficulty later.
Do Not Pay Random People for a "Work Permit"
A common scam pattern is:
"You have been selected. Pay now for your work permit."
Another is:
"Your Kuwait visa is approved but you must transfer money personally before we release it."
Be extremely careful.
A real-looking PDF, company logo, email address or WhatsApp profile does not prove that a job is genuine.
Before paying anyone:
â verify the employer independently â verify the recruiter â confirm the job through official company contact details â understand exactly what the payment is for â use official government channels wherever applicable â never send money merely because someone threatens that the visa will be cancelled immediately
If you have doubts, stop before paying.
Red Flags After You Receive a Job Offer
Warning signs include:
recruiter refuses to identify the real employer âĸ only communicates through personal messaging accounts âĸ asks for large personal transfers âĸ promises guaranteed government approval âĸ asks you to enter Kuwait on one purpose while secretly working on another âĸ refuses to give written employment terms âĸ salary changes after you send documents âĸ asks you to surrender passwords or OTP codes âĸ asks for your bank login âĸ pressures you to act immediately âĸ tells you not to contact the company directly
One red flag does not automatically prove fraud, but several together should make you stop and verify everything.
Before You Leave Your Home Country
Before travelling for a new Kuwait job, try to have clear answers to these questions:
â Who is my actual employer? â What is my job title? â What salary was agreed? â What benefits were agreed? â Who provides accommodation, if applicable? â Is transportation provided? â What are the working hours? â What is the employment location? â What stage has my work authorization reached? â Which document am I travelling on? â Who will receive me or guide me after arrival? â What documents must I carry in original?
Do not depend on memory or telephone promises.
Get important employment terms in writing.
After Residence Approval
After your residence process is completed, your next practical steps normally include your Civil ID and Kuwait's digital government services.
Your Civil ID becomes one of the most important identity documents in everyday Kuwait life.
Kuwait Mobile ID and Sahel can then become important tools for government and identity-related services.
Keep your phone number and account information secure because many digital services depend on them.
